Red Rooster Days in Dassel

Every year, Dassel’s Red Rooster Days provides finger-licking fun for about 3,000 people, and the 2010 celebration promises to be no different.

The 51st Red Rooster Days is set for Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-6, 2010.

Saturday’s festivities will include the opening of the Red Rooster Days Fine Arts Show, sponsored by the Dassel-Cokato Arts Association.

Twenty-seven artists and 74 works of art were entered in last year’s show. Best of Show went to Eric Lee from Eau Claire, WI for “Pigeon Town,” a painting of a shanty town.

Other events Saturday will include a parade, coronation, and street dance.

Sunday morning will start with a community worship service.

This year, there will also be an all-class reunion at Dassel-Cokato High School.

“We’re sending out 2,700 letters,” said advisory committee member Dean Gayner, who graduated in 1948.

The first all-class reunion was in 2000, he said, with about 600 alumni in attendance.

Sunday will also feature a mini rod tractor pull, and fireworks at dusk.

The final day of Red Rooster, Labor Day, will have a five-mile run, concessions, car show, and kids pedal pull.

Monday is also the day of the famous barbecue chicken dinner.

For more information about concessions, contact Red Rooster Day’s secretary Amy Wilde at (320) 275-3684.

For information about the barbecue, contact Paul Holm at (320) 275-4562.

Parade questions can be directed to Wayne Medcraft at (320) 275-9200.

For all other Red Rooster Day questions, call Connie Walters at (320) 275-3173 or (320) 275-2751.
