The Dassel Red Rooster Days festival draws quite a crowd to Dassel during Labor Day weekend each year.
Beginning as a one-day event that took place on Labor Day, the festival has grown throughout the years to encompass the whole weekend, and includes the region’s largest parade, and the largest chicken BBQ in Minnesota.
This year’s 62nd annual Red Rooster Days is scheduled for Friday, Sep 3 through Monday, Sept. 6.
Those attending the 2021 celebration can plan on a full weekend.
Friday celebration highlights include the Dassel Farmers Market, open in the afternoon.
Saturday has something fun for everyone, including 7-mile and 18-mile bike rides, an art show at the Dassel History Center, the Grande Day parade; and the coronation of new Dassel Ambassadors.
Sunday begins with a community worship service, a reception at the fine arts show, and a quilt show. Revelers may stay for a brat feed, and conclude the day with a large fireworks show at dusk at Spring Lake Park.
Labor Day Monday will keep people hopping. Events include a 5-mile run and a 1-mile walk, followed by the largest chicken BBQ in Minnesota.
The chicken BBQ menu makes a full plate: one-half of a chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, bread, milk, and coffee.
Those not too full for a stroll may take in the classic car show and cheer on some little ones at the kiddie tractor pull after dinner.
Concessions, exhibits, vendors, and a beer garden will all be open all day.
